But before your fingers actually does some typing, you need to know what to do first.


STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE


1. Write an SEO Rich Blog

SEO leads have 14.6% close rate, while outbound leads (such as direct mail or print advertising) have a 1.7% close rate.

First, what is SEO? And what's up with abbreviating things?


SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It's the process of optimizing your website to get organic or un-paid traffic to your website.


In terms of all these abbreviations--I think this needs to be taken up with the appropriate committee.


There are abbreviations that are the same but stand for different things, and it gets really confusing:


DOA

  • Dead on Arrival

  • Department of Aging

AIDS

  • Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome

  • Attitude, Integrity, Dependability, and Service

BLOG

  • Business Log

No, blog does not have an abbreviated form. It's actually a short form of Weblog, coined by Peter Merholz in 1999.


Who is Peter Merholz?


He's some guy.


A blog for your business, however, is very important because it is a means to inform readers, educate them, and help solve problems.


This could be in the form of how-to articles for a product and or service that you sell.


Let's say that you own a vehicle repairing company and you want to give this industry a good name, because let's face it, it doesn't have the best of reputations.


A good possible article would be, "How to Not Be Swindled By Car Mechanics".


Add videos to spot potential cons and voila, you just made yourself the most-beloved mechanic of all time!


STEPS:


  • Go to Google and type, "How to know a good car repair". Terrible sentence structure but Google knows what you're thinking. Scary, but true.

Scroll down and you'll notice questions like "What should I look for in a mechanic?", "How do I find a local mechanic?", "How do I trust a mechanic?"


This is a great way to find topics for your blog and help answer questions that people are already looking for.

  • Use those keywords in your title from the questions people ask. The title, "What Should I Look for in a Mechanic?" is an example for a long-tail keyword vs "Mechanic". A long-tail keyword is much better for SEO.

  • Strive to hit at least 1,000 words for your blog. A good blog is between 1,000 - 3,000 words.

  • Use simple terms and don't make it too technical for the average reader.

  • Make sure to add images related to your blog topic.

  • You can add gifs to your blog such as from this free website.

  • Add videos (Statistics alert below).

  • Make your blog mobile-friendly. It doesn't help your business if a person reading your blog on their phone can't read everything because it hasn't been optimized for the web.

And it goes up from there.


Mailchimp starts at $299/month for 200,000 contacts.


I'm sorry but it's pretty ridiculous.


And I don't really want to advocate for something when there's a much cheaper alternative and just as good.

You get to send up 150,000 emails a month to unlimited contacts plus other features starting at $169/month (under the premium plan). That's a lot lower than the other email autoresponders.

But if your site is with Wix, well then sweet sassy molassy I would go with Wix!

This free service from Google ensures you more traffic and traction to your business.

If you can't get found, you can't get sales.


This is why it's important for your business to be on Google My Business regardless if your business is localized, national, or global.

  • 1 in 2 people who conduct a local search visit a store that day, and 76% of people who search for something nearby on their smartphone

  • 46% of all Google searches are seeking local information

The real reason you want to maximize your Google My Business Listing is because Google places importance on it.


If you don't take advantage of your listing, you most likely will fall behind.


All the while your competitors are garnering more reviews, uploading photos and expanding their list of services and products offered.

5. Ask for Feedback and Reviews

The more good reviews you have, the more people will choose your business over another.

It's always good practice to ask for feedback so you know what needs improvement in your business, products, and services.


And there's nothing like good reviews from your satisfied customers to give those browsing to choose your business over your competitors.


So make sure to ask.


And if they leave a negative feedback on Google for example, do respond in a professional and kind manner and have them contact you so you can remedy the situation.


Usually they'll change their reviews based on you promptness in resolving the issue.


5. Get on Pinterest

Pinterest is actually the place to get free traffic to your website.

That, already is a huge upside.


Pinterest increases your brand awareness, additional traffic, and creates new leads, and increased sales.
